Workshop debrief

January 2025: Genomics

Teaching parts of the workshop went well, but turnout was disappointing - less than 50% of registered learners showed up. Concern about what this might mean for R in February. No issues with Carpentries AMIs. Helpers expressed appreciation that these lessons include a sneaky introduction to Bash.

Workshop planning

February 2025: Intro R

The workshop will be in person in Watson Library. Planning to increase the registration cap to 35 to account for the recent ~50% no show rate. Instructors Brian and Michelle are planning to use Nautilus. In the event that Nautilus crashes, there are options: R environment in Google CoLab, Carpentries cloud options, and Posit Cloud. Helper recruitment is ongoing. Jamene will schedule a tech check for the classroom and push out announcements. Brian wants to distribute the announcement to EEB and MB.

Time Series Data developing lesson

Michelle and co-instructor offered a test run of their lesson in late January. They got through about 40% of what they had planned. Hoping that future learners will have more R experience; the attending group had a little, but instructors needed to take the lesson slowly. They got feedback from the learners that will help in developing the last two episodes of the lesson.
